Design Basics 6: Form — Bringing It All Together

Form is about the shapes you see in a room — straight lines, curves, and everything in between. Unlike the other elements, form isn’t something we added all at once. It’s been building with every piece we’ve introduced along the way.

What we Mean by Form

Designers think about form as the shapes that make up a space — whether they’re straight, curved, or more organic.

What this means for you is mixing different shapes to create interest, while repeating a few key ones so the room still feels connected.

We also repeated a few key shapes so the room still feels connected. The three vase prints are a good example — they repeat the same shape across multiple pieces, which creates a sense of consistency.

You can see this again in the arched doors on both the tall cabinet and the console. Those repeated shapes show up in different parts of the room, helping tie everything together.

Looking at the space, those repeated shapes create a subtle connection across the room instead of everything feeling unrelated.
